Practice at home

To become good at something, you have to practice – regularly. Not just every once in a while. You have to be consistent.

So when we learn martial arts – if we want to actually learn it – we have to practice throughout the week and not just rely on the exposure we’re getting in class.

There are studies that show that lots of little practice sessions are better for really learning something than larger chunks of practice but less frequently or consistently.

One of the best ways we can practice what we’re learning at Flowing River Martial Arts is to utilize the online practice resources.

Using your phone or your computer, you can look up videos to see and hear the concepts we go over in class. You can read the blog and other content pages to learn more in depth about some of the principles behind the concepts.

The beauty of online learning is that it’s not only always available to you, you can very easily adjust the amount and type of practice based on how much you can do in each moment.

Sometimes you might block out 30 minutes to go over the basic punches and kicks and physically get involved.

Other times, you may just have a few minutes while you’re in line at a fast food joint and you decide to watch a video detailing how to put someone in a figure 4.

And yet another time, you may go over a blog entry talking about how to find balance when all around you is in flux while you are sitting on a train on your way home from work.

With online resources we can make sure that we are consistently practicing every day or several times a week. This way our training can build on itself and have a snowball effect.

So look around our site to find some practice tools you can use to boost your learning and achieve your goals.
